Yes, certain remote regions near the Chinese border require a special permit. This applies to places such as the Sary-Jaz valley, Inylchek glacier, Kel-Suu lake, Ak-Sai valley, and areas around Khan-Tengri and Pobeda peaks.
These permits must be arranged in advance. We handle the entire process for our travelers and make sure all necessary documents are prepared before your trip, so you can visit these regions without any complications.

What is the local currency and how do I pay?
The local currency is the Kyrgyz som (KGS). Cash is widely used, especially outside cities. ATMs are available in Bishkek and Osh, while card payments are limited in rural areas.

Card payments are accepted in major cities like Bishkek and Osh, especially in hotels, restaurants, and larger shops. However, in smaller towns, villages, and mountain areas, cash is still the main form of payment. WiFi is widely available in cities, including cafes, restaurants, and hotels. In more remote areas, especially in villages and mountain regions, internet access can be limited or unavailable.
For more reliable connectivity, we recommend purchasing a local SIM card — providers like MegaCom, O! and Beeline offer good coverage across much of the country. In some high-altitude and remote locations, internet access is also available via Starlink, which is increasingly used in places like yurt camps and mountain areas.
